Klein Dauphine

A Legacy Rooted in History

In 1692, French Huguenot Estienne Niel arrived at the Cape and two years later was given a farm in Franschhoek. He named his farm Le Dauphiné after his home in southeastern France.

Centuries later, we restored a small section of his original land, now Klein Dauphine: 2.2 hectares of historic terroir with a legacy of excellence.

We became the proud owners of Klein (small) Dauphine in 2019. The vineyards needed attention and care, but we soon realised their exceptional potential. The winds drop over the surrounding mountains providing the vines with a cooling breeze. The combination of alluvial sandstone and clay makes for a well-drained and mineral-rich soil for the vines to thrive in. After planting a block of additional Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, we now grow almost one hectare of vines. Small, but that enables us to care for it better.

Our first vintage was released in 2020.

Valley Kids

A Wine with a Mission

All profits from our wines support Valley Kids, a preschool on our property for farm workers’ children of different ethnical backgrounds. Thirty children, aged two to five, receive professional education that gives them a powerful head start in life.

When you pour a bottle of HAAS, you share a story of French roots, South African soil, and a hopeful future. We thank you for being part of it.
